MANILA, Philippines — A plane bound for Narita, Japan overshot a runway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before dawn yesterday.

Jetstar Airways’ Airbus A320, which was carrying 140 passengers and six crew, ended up with its landing gears stuck in the grassy portion, also called the runway safety area, of domestic runway 13-31 at around 2:32 a.m.

Eleven flights were delayed due to the accident. The runway was closed until past 11 a.m.

Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal said the plane was about to take off when it veered off the shoulder of the runway.

All the passengers, including an infant, and crew were brought back to the NAIA Terminal 1 by shuttle buses, according to an incident report of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
