MANILA, Philippines — Around 12,000 kilos of smuggled frozen meat products were confiscated by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) in Navotas Wednesday night.

At least 1,054 boxes of frozen meat products like pork, chicken, and peking duck illegally imported from China were confiscated along Kalakal street in Barangay San Rafael Village. The meat products were being transported to a warehouse.

The enforcement team from the NMIS-Department of Agriculture (DA), as well as Navotas police, confiscated the frozen meat products weighing 12,648 kilograms, according to a report from the police.

The confiscation was made as the DA imposed a ban on meat products imported from countries affected by African swine fever.

The owner of the warehouse faces charges for violating the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
