MANILA, Philippines — There will be no fare increase for modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and electronic jeepneys, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced yesterday.

The transport regulator made the clarification amid reports that there would be a fare increase following the issuance of Memorandum Circular 2019-061 on Nov. 19.

According to the LTFRB, the memorandum serves only as a guideline for fare rates for the services of PUJs and e-jeepneys.

The regulatory body said the memorandum “aims to establish a standard fare computations for PUJs.”

For non-air-conditioned e-jeepneys, the fare rate is 20 percent higher than regular PUJs for the first four kilometers. There is no rate difference in the succeeding kilometers, the LTFRB said.

For air-conditioned e-jeepneys, the fare is 20 percent higher than regular PUJs and an additional 20 percent for every succeeding kilometer.
