Misamis grenade blast; 2 dead, 11 wounded
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY , Philippines – Two persons were killed and 11 others wounded when a grenade exploded at the covered court of a school in Initao, Misamis Oriental yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Rolando Anduyan, Northern Mindanao police director, identified the fatalities as M/Sgt. Jason Magno and Ebrahim Basher, 65.
M/Sgt. Alice Balido and 10 students were wounded. They were brought to various hospitals for treatment.
Initial investigation showed police received a call for assistance when Basher, armed with a grenade and a knife, entered Initao College in Barangay Jampason at around 11:20 a.m.
A video posted on Facebook showed Magno and several other people trying to wrest control of the grenade from Basher.
Prior to the incident, Basher reportedly stormed the municipal environment and natural resources office demanding the release of his logs, which MENRO held for lack of papers.
Basher reportedly pulled a grenade and threatened to blow up the environmental office before he entered the nearby school.
