‘Visitor’ steals cell phones from hospital room

MANILA, Philippines – A man who was ostensibly visiting a Pasig City hospital was arrested for stealing the cell phones of a patient and her husband from their room yesterday.

Jules Danielle da Silva, 23, was apprehended as he was leaving Tri-City Hospital when security guard Modesto Ortega, 48, frisked him and found the cell phones in his possession at around 2 a.m.

Ortega started frisking visitors as they left the premises after hospital staff alerted him to the theft of the cell phones, which were on a table in the patient’s hospital room.

Police, who are set to file charges of robbery against Da Silva, said the suspect would reportedly pretend to be visiting a patient at the hospital in order to rob the patients and their visitors.
