MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain, seen in a viral video pointing his gun at neighbors earlier this year, was arrested yesterday in connection with a 1992 drug case.
Officers from the Manila Police District’s holding and administrative unit, led by Capt. Sonny Reyes, served Barangay 790, Zone 86 captain Amado Soriano at the barangay hall shortly before 2 p.m.
The warrant, dated Sept. 17, was issued by Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148 Judge Andres Bartolome Soriano, who sentenced him to serve 12 years in prison and fined him P12,000.
The warrant did not indicate when the judge issued the sentence.
Last July 9, Soriano was arrested and charged with frustrated murder for threatening and pointing his gun at several neighbors during a quarrel over a parking space in Pandacan.
Mayor Isko Moreno ordered Soriano to turn himself over. Soriano appeared before the mayor and explained his side, saying he came to his daughter’s aid.
Soriano also filed countercharges against four persons for allegedly insulting him.
