MANILA, Philippines — Two alleged robbers died after they allegedly engaged police in a shootout in Malate, Manila yesterday.

Police have yet to identify the suspects who were pronounced dead at the Ospital ng Maynila.

Chief M/Sgt. Richard Escarlan of the Manila Police District homicide unit said members of the MPD Station 9 were conducting anti-crime operations when they spotted two men on a motorcycle who counter-flowed at around 1:30 a.m.

Police pulled over the suspects. Instead of stopping, one of them drew a gun and fired at the lawmen.

Police gave chase and cornered the suspects at the corner of Guinto and Dagonoy streets.

The suspects were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

The victim, Jessamin Perez, said she was walking along Leon Guinto street when the suspects took her belongings at gunpoint.

Police said they recovered two guns and Perez’s valuables from the suspects.
