MANILA, Philippines — Eight Chinese were apprehended by police in separate operations in the cities of Pasay and Makati on Thursday night.
Members of the Pasay police nabbed four Chinese over the alleged illegal detention of their compatriot.
Hui Qin, 29; Shengtao Tan, 40; Kaisi Luo, 36, and Pu Fei, 29, were arrested in a casino.
Police said the suspects detained 36-year-old Samuel Chang after he failed to pay his P300,000 loan.
Chang said the suspects threatened to kill him.
The suspects are being held by police on charges of direct assault and illegal detention.
Four Chinese were apprehended in Makati for allegedly extorting money from a fellow Chinese to extend her expired tourist visa.
Xu Zhang, 30; Han Liyu, 20; Zhou Jurfeng, 24 and Leng Shung, 20, were taken into police custody.
The victim, Wang Jiangweng, said she met the suspects in front of the Chinese consul office in Makati. – Ghio Ong
