Body found in fishpond; ?crime of passion eyed

MANILA, Philippines — The body of a woman wrapped in a blanket was found floating in a fish pond in Valenzuela City last Friday, in what police said was a crime of passion.

Rosalie Sagal, 43, a resident of Navotas, was found dead with stab wounds in a fishpond in Barangay Pasolo just behind the house of the suspect, who was traced to a drug rehabilitation facility in Pampanga, according to Valenzuela assistant police chief for operations Maj. Rhoderick Juan.

The suspect’s family had apparently committed him for drug rehabilitation after he committed the crime, Juan said.

Police said Sagal and the suspect were having an affair, and the victim’s husband earlier alleged Sagal had been kidnapped.

Sagal went missing on July 20 and was found by Valenzuela waste management personnel last Friday wrapped with a blanket and floating in a fishpond filled with water lilies.
