MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairman in Manila was charged yesterday with frustrated murder for allegedly threatening and poking his gun at several of his constituents during an argument over a parking slot in Pandacan last week.

Manila Police District-Special Mayor’s Reaction Team deputy chief Maj. Cicero Pura ordered the filing of charges against Barangay 790, Zone 86 chairman Amado Soriano.

Last Friday, Mayor Isko Moreno gave Soriano until yesterday to turn himself in. Soriano appeared before the mayor yesterday and explained his side. He also filed countercharges against four persons for allegedly insulting him.

He said a certain Caithlyn Amores claimed in a Facebook post that he reportedly hit her brothers with a pipe and threatened her with a gun.

Soriano said he just came to the aid of his daughter after residents allegedly tried to gang up on her. Other reports said one of the complainants pulled the hair of Soriano’s daughter during a fight over parking space.

Viral photos showed he went to the area with a gun and threatened the people who were around during the commotion.
