MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were killed in separate shootings in Metro Manila on Monday.

Carol Calano, 39, and her eldest daughter had just taken her youngest daughter to school when they were attacked by a motorcycle-riding assailant.

They were in a tricycle when the assailant, who was wearing a mask, shot at Calano’s head through the back of the tricycle along Cordero street in Barangay 67, said Caloocan lead investigator Lt. Joe Mar Ronquillo.

Police are investigating the motive for the killing. The victim’s husband, Alejandro, said his wife – who was in the buy and sell business – owed money to several persons.

In Taguig, student Senator Carit, 17, was shot dead when he stepped out of his family’s house in Barangay New Lower Bicutan on Monday night.

Carit was supposedly checking his cell phone after receiving a text message from an anonymous sender when unidentified assailants shot him in the head, case investigator Chief M/Sgt. Cornelio Diones said.

A bullet casing was recovered at the scene, he added.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
