20 boat passengers rescued off Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — The captain and 19 passengers of a boat that went adrift in the waters off Camiguin Island in Aparri, Cagayan were rescued by Coast Guard personnel on Friday. 

According to a police report, the captain of MB Geda, Johnson Arirao, 28, decided to toss 58 cavans of rice and 700 kilos of banana into the sea to prevent the boat from sinking.

The boat was heading to Aparri when it encountered a mechanical problem.

The boat was towed back to the Camiguin port.
