CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A village councilor and his driver were caught sniffing methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu Wednesday in Barangay Aniban 5, Bacoor City, Cavite.

Brig. Gen. Edward Carranza, Calabarzon police director, said barangay councilor Dante Morales, 50, and his driver Miguel Piedad, 53, were caught in a drug session in the office of their barangay captain.

Carranza said Morales and Piedad used the barangay captain’s office as a drug den when they had clients, most of them alleged drug users.

Carranza had ordered Bacoor City police chief Lt. Col. Vicente Cabatingan to conduct an investigation into Morales’ alleged illegal drug activities.

Closed-circuit television footage showed Morales and Piedad sniffing shabu to show their clients that the drug was genuine.

Cabatingan said charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act as well as an administrative complaint were filed against the suspects.

4 slain

Meanwhile, a robber and three drug suspects were killed in separate incidents in Cavite.

An unidentified robber accused of stealing from Indian trader Willian Singh, was shot dead by responding police officers in Barangay Malagasang I-G, Imus City, Thursday noon.

Rommel Sarmiento Jr., Leonard Imas and Narciso Briggs were killed in alleged shootouts with undercover police in separate drug stings in Barangay Punta 1 and Barangay Molino 4, in Tanza town and Bacoor City, respectively.

Imas and Briggs were members of the Sapanghila Brothers gang, which sells illegal drugs in the barangay, Cabatingan said.
