NAIA flights delayed due to lightning alert

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 19 flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were delayed yesterday due to a red lightning alert issued by the state weather bureau.

The Manila International Airport Authority suspended ramp movement for both aircraft and NAIA personnel.

The red lightning advisory is a safety measure to prevent untoward incidents when lightning strikes, which may endanger passengers, personnel and flight operations.

The lightning alert was downgraded to yellow before it was lifted at past 4 p.m., airport officials said.
