EDSA bus ban up to mayors – MMDA

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The implementation of the provincial bus ban along EDSA depends on the newly elected mayors in the metropolis, an official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said the bus ban on EDSA is still a go.

“But with the election of new mayors in the metropolis, we have to wait for guidance from the Metro Manila Council (MMC) before implementing the program,” Nebrija said.

He said the transition of new local chief executives may delay the MMDA’s target to close provincial bus terminals along EDSA this month.

Traffic reduction measures of the agency should be approved by the MMC, which is composed of Metro Manila mayors.

Nebrija said the dry run of the provincial bus ban remains suspended.

“We will see what will happen in the coming days,” he told reporters.

Nebrija said its up to the elected mayors to decide on the closure of the provincial bus terminals along EDSA, which are usually located in Pasay and Quezon City.

The MMDA had asked local government units in Metro Manila to revoke the business permits of the bus terminals.

The EDSA bus ban is expected to be implemented next month.
