Quake-hit Pampanga supermarket workers get assistance

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Five workers who were injured when Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga collapsed during a magnitude 6.1 earthquake have received assistance from the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III distributed P10,000 in cash and grocery items to the families of saleslady Ma. Lourdes Martin, bagger Jonie Gonzales, checker Rhinalyn Corpuz and office staff Ivone Tating and Desiree Facun on Thursday.

Two workers, whose legs were amputated, and three others, who suffered multiple fractures, remain confined in a hospital.

Bello said the cash assistance is part of an ECC program, which provides immediate support for workers who met work-related contingencies.
