MANILA, Philippines — DNA samples taken from 16-year-old Christine Lee Silawan of Cebu and a 42-year-old man who confessed to killing her matched with those found in the scissors allegedly used in the crime, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.

“The DNA exam... on the pair of scissors reveals positive  findings... of presence of DNA of both victim Christine Lee Silawan and suspect Renato Llenes,” PNP spokesman Col. Bernard Banac said in a text message.

Banac said the result of the examination conducted by the PNP Crime Laboratory would boost the murder case filed against Llenes.

Llenes executed an extrajudicial confession that he stabbed to death Silawan in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City last month.

He  said he skinned the victim’s face so she would not be easily identified. He said he learned skinning om YouTube and online videos.

Llenes claimed Silawan became his girlfriend through his dummy Facebook accounts.

Silawan’s former boyfriend, 17, is another suspect in her gruesome murder.

Llenes appealed to authorities to release the teenager, saying he has nothing to do with the crime.
