Close to 30,000 passengers monitored in ports nationwide
MANILA, Philippines — Close to 30,000 passengers flocked to ports nationwide Thursday morning, data from the Philippine Coast Guard showed.
The PCG in a release to reporters said that it monitored 29,910 outbound passengers in all ports from midnight of April 18 until 6:00 a.m.
The number of passengers has decreased from PCG’s data for Wednesday night where the coast guard recorded 70,504 passengers in ports across the country.
Malacañang has earlier declared April 18 and 19, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as regular holidays.
Some government offices, however, declared half-day work suspension on Wednesday to allow employees to come home to their provinces for the observance of Lent.
The PCG recorded the bulk of the passengers, 10, 545, in the five ports in Southern Tagalog region. This was followed by 7,363 passengers in Cebu, Bohol and Southern Cebu ports of the Central Visayas region. — Kristine Joy Patag
