Navotas launches city-wide free WiFi

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Navotas yesterday launched its free WiFi program to allow residents to access the Internet wherever they are in the city.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco led the launching of the program dubbed “NavoConnect” in the city’s Centennial Park.

“We hope that through NavoConnect, the residents will be able to learn more and improve themselves,” Tiangco said.

He said WiFi hotspots would be installed in the Centennial Park, Navotas Polytechnic College, bus stations, amphitheater, library, housing sites, health centers and basketball courts.

Each hotspot can accommodate 250 Internet users with free WiFi connection for one hour.

“By putting a cap on the number of Internet users at a given time, the program can cater to up to 10,500 users per hour,” Tiangco said.

He reminded the residents to be aware of fake news and disinformation on social media.
