2 dead, 8 hurt in Taguig crash
MANILA, Philippines — Two motorists died while eight others were injured when a 10-wheeler truck rammed into several vehicles along C6 Road in Taguig City yesterday morning.
Danilo Pedrosa Jr. and fire officer Gerald Ian Hernandez died at the scene when the truck’s brakes allegedly failed and the vehicle hit them, the Southern Police District (SPD) said in a report.
The SPD said Roman Mariñas, 29, was on C6 Road’s southbound lane when the truck he was driving allegedly lost its brakes and hit two jeepneys, a motorcycle, a private car and two bicycles.
The injured victims were identified as Ronald Ortega Villanueva, Jaime Ocfemia Berosil Jr., Rogelio Salinas Fernandez, Aldren Ano Sepe, Christopher Aquino Dalangin, Christel Castro Layosa, Cecile Marie Verin Moreno and police officer Francis Varona Larita of the Special Action Force.
Mariñas and his helpers Ronny Mariñas, 19, and Julius Vallinan, 31, were detained at the Taguig City police station shortly after the incident, pending the filing of appropriate charges against them.
A closed-circuit television video aired by GMA 7 purportedly showed Mariñas racing with the driver of a mixer truck.
