2 Pinays bound for China intercepted at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Thursday barred from leaving the country two Filipina workers believed to be hired as surrogate mothers in China.

The passengers were about to board a Cebu Pacific flight to Hong Kong when they were intercepted by members of the BI travel control and enforcement unit at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.

The women, aged 28 and 32, admitted that they agreed to become surrogate mothers to support their families, BI port operations division chief Grifton Medina said.

The Filipina workers accepted the job for P300,000 each, according to Medina.

They were turned over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking.
