Barangay kagawad, ex-village execs held for guns, ammo

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — Two former barangay officials and an incumbent councilman were arrested after unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered during raids on their residences in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Gilberto DC Cruz, Caraga police director, said Alex Guillermo, 49, former chairman of Barangay Carromata, former councilman Al Gala of Sagbayan and councilman Glenn Tranquilan were arrested.

Police said a caliber .45 pistol and ammunition were recovered from Guillermo and an improvised shotgun, a 9mm pistol and magazines with ammunition, from Tranquilan. Gala reportedly yielded a caliber .45 pistol, an improvised gun, a caliber .38 revolver, an air gun and bullets.
