LRT-1 lifts liquids ban

MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) yesterday lifted its ban on liquid substances at its train stations more than two months since it was implemented following the bombing of a church in Mindanao.

In its official Twitter account @officialLRT1, the rail line said that commuters were allowed to bring bottled water and other liquids at its stations effective yesterday.

The LRT-1 and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) banned commuters from bringing liquids into their stations as a precautionary measure of the Philippine National Police following the bombing of a cathedral in Jolo, Sulu on Jan. 27.

The MRT-3 lifted the liquids ban in February.

In another development, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) announced yesterday that it will provide free rides for all Filipino veterans with one companion from April 5 to 11.

The LRT-2 said the veterans are required to present their Philippine Veterans Affairs Office identification card to avail themselves of the free ride.
