‘Starstruck’ winner nabbed for hit-and-run, drunk driving
MANILA, Philippines — An actor was arrested after he figured in a hit-and-run accident that injured two employees of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Makati on Tuesday.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property as well as disobedience to persons in authority were filed yesterday against Migo Adecer, winner of television talent search “Starstruck.”
City police chief Col. Rogelio Simon said Adecer hit MMDA employees Rogelio Fomerlos and Michelle Gallova, who were traversing Barangay Poblacion on a motorcycle.
Fomerlos and Gallova were taken to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment.
Reports said Adecer sped off after the accident, prompting police to chase him.
Simon said Adecer became unruly and rude toward the police officers who confiscated his driver’s license.
Simon said a patrol car blocked the actor’s vehicle to prevent him from escaping.
Adecer was drunk at the time of the accident, police said.
Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary Goddess Hope Libiran said a separate case for violation of Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act may be filed against Adecer.
“If he was really drunk, he has to face the consequences. No one is above the law,” Libiran told The STAR.
Police said they were also looking into the possibility that Adecer is using a fake driver’s license.
The actor presented two driver’s licenses following his arrest, according to Simon.
Police said they would ask the Land Transportation Office to check Adecer’s driver’s license.
Simon said they would recommend the cancelation or revocation of Adecer’s driver’s license if he indeed used a fake one.
LTO executive director Romeo Vera Cruz said Adecer may be fined P3,000 and his driver’s license revoked if proven guilty.
