MANILA, Philippines — Four suspected carjackers were killed in an alleged shootout with Highway Patrol Group (HPG) police officers in Muntinlupa City yesterday morning.

Police have yet to identify the fatalities, who were shot along Don P. Reyes Avenue near Daang Reyna Southville 3 at around 5:25 a.m.

Operatives were dispatched after two carjacking incidents were reported in Taguig and Manila since Thursday night, according to HPG director Chief Superintendent Roberto Fajardo.

Police officers supposedly flagged down the driver of a Hyundai Accent, but the driver and his passengers allegedly opened fire at the lawmen and tried to escape.

The suspects died at the scene in the ensuing shootout, Fajardo said.

Verification with the Land Transportation Office showed that the conduction sticker on the vehicle was originally for a Hyundai Eon.

Recovered at the crime scene were police uniforms and identification cards, which are being validated, Fajardo said.
