MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City council, led by Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, recently approved on third and final reading an ordinance converting the Quezon City Polytechnic University into QC University and enhancing its charter.

Councilor Precious Hipolito Castelo, who is running for another term in District 2, said since the new charter complies with the requirements laid out by the Commission on Education, the school can now qualify as a local university and a beneficiary of Republic Act 10931 or the free tuition law.

Councilors Aly Medalla and Kate Coseteng co-sponsored the ordinance.
