Closure of Tandang Sora flyover, intersection rescheduled to March 2

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 6:54 p.m.) — The closure of the Tandang Sora flyover and intersection has been rescheduled to March 2, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced Thursday.

The closure will take effect on March 2 at 11 p.m. The new schedule is six days later than the original date.

In a statement Thursday, the DOTr said it agrees with the request of Congress and the Quezon City Council, which asked to delay by one week the planned closure of the Tandang Sora flyover to allow government agencies to inform motorists about alternative routes.

“While we want the construction of the MRT-7 to proceed as fast as possible, the DOTr also understands that major adjustments have to be made by residents, commuters and motorists who will be affected by the said closure,” DOTr said.

It added: “We take this postponement as a period to strengthen public awareness and cooperation for the project, as this would give individuals and agencies ample time to prepare and manage the traffic situation in the area.”

San Miguel Corporation agreed to the postponement too, DOTr said.

The Tandang Sora flyover will be demolished for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 — a 22-kilometer rail line aims to connect Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan.

MMDA earlier said the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover and intersections would last for two years.
