Davao bus firm’s franchises suspended over mishap

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday suspended the franchises of 34 units of Davao Metro Shuttle buses following an accident in Compostela Valley that left seven persons dead.

The regional office of the LTFRB in Davao said Metro bus was found to be at fault.

Initial investigation showed that one of the tires of Metro bus exploded, causing the vehicle to sway and crash into a Bachelor bus on the opposite lane.

The LTFRB said Compostela Valley was also not included in the authorized route of Metro bus. The bus was allowed only to ply between this city and Tagum in Davao del Norte.

The LTFRB ordered drug tests and road safety seminars for the drivers and conductors of Metro bus as well as inspection of its other units for road worthiness.

The bus company was also ordered to submit proof of insurance payment to ensure compensation for the victims of the accident.
