‘French Spiderman’ Alain Robert scales Makati building
MANILA, Philippines — A Frenchman popularly known as the “French Spiderman” was arrested yesterday morning after he was caught scaling the seventh tallest building in Makati City with no ropes.
Clad in a black long-sleeved shirt and yellow pants, Alain Robert said he arrived in the country on Friday and climbed the 43-story GT Tower without seeking a permit from its management as he finds it satisfying to see people entertained by his stunt.
“I am happy about it. I could hear them, they were laughing. What I did was entertaining people,” Robert told reporters shortly after his arrest.
Chief Inspector Gideon Ines Jr., assistant city police chief for operations, said GT Tower’s management has filed charges of alarm and scandal and other forms of trespassing against Robert, who is set to leave the Philippines next month.
Robert’s lawyer, Howard Calleja, was waiting for him when he descended from the building.
Robert was previously arrested after scaling some of the tallest buildings in the world.
