Slain bowling champ’s relatives want probe dropped

MANILA, Philippines — The relatives of slain bowling gold medalist Angelo Constantino do not want his killing investigated, a police official said yesterday.

Constantino’s daughter Angelica, 20, went to the office of San Juan police chief Senior Superintendent Dindo Reyes before noon yesterday to tell him that they are not interested in pursuing the investigation.

Reyes also said the .45 caliber pistol used in Constantino’s murder is not registered with the Firearms and Explosives Office.

“We are in quandary because of the twin negative developments. However, we could continue investigating the case,” he said, noting that the Special Investigation Task Group Constantino formed to probe the killing held a meeting yesterday afternoon to discuss the developments in the case.

“With or without the help of the family, our efforts to track down the suspect would be a continuing process,” Reyes added.

After shooting Constantino in the canteen of the bowling center where the victim worked, the assailant dropped the murder weapon in the basement, police said.
