MANILA, Philippines — A policeman assigned to the Police Security and Protection Group was gunned down by an unidentified assailant as he was eating at a carinderia he frequented in Barangay Marilag, Quezon City Wednesday night.
Probers said Senior Police Officer 2 Venancio Ramos Hidalgo was having dinner at the Souper Bulls eatery along J.P. Rizal street at around 9:25 p.m. when the assailant drove up on a motorcycle and shot him from behind several times.
Hidalgo died at the scene.
Recovered at the scene were two bullet casings and two slugs. Probers also recovered Hidalgo’s sling bag that contained a loaded Piertro Berretta 9mm pistol and identification cards.
Investigators are looking into Hidalgo’s work or alleged involvement in a “love triangle” to establish a motive for the killing, according to Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, Quezon City Police District director.
Hidalgo’s murder follows the killing of several others in the city last year, including two former QCPD anti-drug officials, a policeman who had gone AWOL or absent without leave and another who was on floating status.
