MANILA, Philippines — Government forces foiled an attempt of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) to set off a bomb in Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao yesterday.
Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, 6th Infantry Division commander, said soldiers recovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) following an encounter with the BIFF men in Sitio Landing Fish, Barangay Darampua at around 9 a.m.
“Their usual targets are urban centers in Central Mindanao... Their possible intention is to disrupt the upcoming plebiscite,” Sobejana said.
