Witness in Negros killing clams up

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The lone witness in the shooting of a broadcaster on Dec. 28 in La Libertad town in Negros Oriental appears to be hesitant in cooperating with the police in the probe.

Citing security reasons, Senior Inspector Danilo Santillan, La Libertad police chief, yesterday said the witness, whose identity was withheld, feared for his life.

Gabriel Alboro, 50, a radio announcer of dyJL in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, after he was gunned down by two suspects.

Santillan said the witness, who is employed in a cockpit, witnessed the heated altercation between Alboro and a person over bets in a derby.

Santillan ruled out politics or insurgency-related issues in Alboro’s killing. – With Rainier Allan Ronda, Artemio Dumlao
