MANILA, Philippines — An unidentified man has surrendered to police after taking a child hostage near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Santa Mesa, Manila on Monday morning.
Local media reports varying ages of the child's age. A tweet by Sen. Richard Gordon said the child is 10 years old.
Several injuries were also reported.
The child was taken hostage at around 10 a.m. on Anonas Street near the PUP gate and was reported by several netizens.

According to media reports, police arrived on the scene at around 11 a.m. to negotiate with the suspect to release the child.
Gordon tweeted at 11:36 a.m. that Red Cross personnel arrived on the scene to bring two injured persons to the hospital.
