Fisherman dies after eating puffer fish

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines — A fisherman died while his son was hospitalized after they ate puffer fish, locally known as butete, in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on Saturday.

Rizalino de la Cruz, 35, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital where he and his son Arjay were taken for treatment.

Arjay was later transferred to the Governor Roque Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in Laoag City for proper observation.

Reports said the De la Cruzes suffered abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting after eating the fish for dinner.
