Batanes councilor dies in road mishap

SABTANG, Batanes, Philippines — A municipal councilor died in a motorcycle accident here on Thursday.

Ann Alavado, 33, had just attended an event in Barangay Savidug and was on her way to inspect a nearby local government project when her motorcycle crashed in the outskirt of the village.

Alavado was declared dead on arrival at the Batanes General Hospital in Basco.

The victim was on her second term as Sangguniang Bayan member. She was supposed to run for reelection in next year’s polls.
