Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, chairperson of Hugpong ng Pagbabago, signs an alliance with the People’s Reform Party headed by lawyer Narciso Santiago at Casa Roces in San Miguel, Manila on Monday. With them are PRP senatorial bet Harry Roque Jr. and HNP treasurer Compostela Valley Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy.

MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) formed an alliance with the People’s Reform Party (PRP) headed by its president Narciso Santiago on Monday.

The alliance of the political parties aims to promote their common advocacies through a commitment of mutual support and cooperation.

“The objective of HNP is to engage allies around the country and seek their support for a common senatorial slate in the 2019 midterm elections,” Duterte said.

“Hopefully if these candidates win, they will, in turn, help the President for the remaining three years of his term,” she added.

Among those who witnessed the signing of the alliance was former presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. and Compostela Valley Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy.

Roque is running for senator under the PRP banner.

PRP was founded on April 12, 1991 by then senator Miriam Defensor–Santiago for her presidential bid in the 1992 elections.
