Typhoon-hit bridge in Isabela reopened

Victor Martin - The Philippine Star

CORDON, Isabela, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened yesterday the rehabilitated Siffu bridge in Roxas town in this province, which was destroyed at the height of Typhoon Rosita on Oct. 30.

Melanio Briosos, DPWH-Cordillera director, said the opening of the bridge was 16 days ahead of schedule. The project started on Nov. 8.

Briosos said the government spent P7.5 million for the rehabilitation of the 90-meter-long bridge.

The Siffu bridge, which was built in 1974, connects Isabela to Kalinga and Apayao.

“The bridge was washed away by rampaging waters... from Siffu river in Mountain Province,” Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy III said.

Dy said President Duterte, during his recent visit to the province, committed more than P600 million for the expansion of the bridge.

He said the project is expected to start next year.
