NPA rebel slain in Agusan del Norte clash with soldiers

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte, Philippines — A communist rebel was killed in an encounter with soldiers in Sitio Bulak, Barangay Lower Olave, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on Monday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Francisco Molina Jr., 23rd Infantry Battalion commander, said bandoleers, a rifle, ammunition and a backpack were recovered from the fatality, who has yet to be identified.

Earlier that day, a clash occurred in the same area, but there was no reported casualty from both sides.

Molina thanked local residents for helping government troopers locate the rebels.
