Post Office building declared Important Cultural Property
MANILA, Philippines — The National Museum has declared the Post Office building in Manila as an Important Cultural Property (ICP).
Establishments declared as ICPs possess “exceptional cultural, artistic and historical significance,” according to the Philippine Postal Corp.
PhlPost Postmaster General Joel Otarra thanked the National Museum for giving the post office the recognition.
The postal system was established in 1767 in the first Manila Post Office in Escolta.
The Post Office building in Manila was built in 1926 by Filipino architects Juan Arellano and Tomas Mapua. It was rehabilitated after the second World War.
The Philippine Postal and Philatelic Museum will soon be set up in the complex to house a historical archive of stamps documenting 250 years of postal heritage in the country, PhlPost said
