MANILA, Philippines — Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher “Bong” Go, who is seeking a Senate seat, said on Friday that part of his legislative agenda will be to improve fire safety measures all over the country.

He observed All Souls’ Day by visiting and extending assistance to victims of two separate fires that took place recently.

When he visited three fire survivors at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City, Go said there is a need for more awareness and more “clean, safe” evacuation centers.

The survivors were injured in a fire that broke out in Barangay Buhay in Makilala, North Cotabato. Six persons died in the blaze, which destroyed a house.

The local government of Makilala extended food, medical and financial assistance to the three survivors.

Go also encouraged the affected individuals who are in need of medical attention, especially senior citizens, to avail of services from the nearest Malasakit Center.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop program of President Duterte to hasten the delivery of medical services and give poor patients access to free medicine. A fast lane prioritizing senior citizens and persons with disabilities will also be available.

Nineteen families were also affected by a fire at Times Beach in Barangay 76-A, Davao City on Nov. 1. Seven houses were destroyed in the fire.
