12 bus drivers, conductors test positive for drugs in Metro Manila

Romina Cabrera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Twelve bus drivers and conductors tested positive for drug use during “Undaspot” drug tests at terminals in Metro Manila yesterday.

A total of 848 drivers and seven conductors were subjected to drug testing by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to ensure the safety of passengers going to the provinces to commemorate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

The drivers who tested positive for drugs were not allowed to travel. They will be subjected to a confirmatory examination and their licenses confiscated.

Oplan Undaspot entails a surprise mandatory drug testing on bus personnel as well as drug sweeps using dogs at terminals and ports to prevent drug traffickers from taking advantage of the influx of people to transport illegal drugs.

PDEA chief Aaron Aquino noted an increase in the number of bus drivers and conductors arrested for drugs.

“These drivers should face the consequences of using drugs so as not to compromise the safety of the passengers,” he said.
