MANILA, Philippines — A 66-year-old retired college professor was found dead in a motel room in Sta. Cruz, Manila Monday night.
Ely Tañedo, who taught at the Philippine Public Safety College, was apparently beaten as he had bruises on different parts of the body and ligature marks on his neck, according to Inspector Glenzor Vallejo, Manila Police District homicide investigator.
Records showed that Tañedo checked in with a male companion, described to be between 25 and 30 years old, at around 5:30 p.m.
An hour later, the companion tried to leave but employees told him he couldn’t leave until they contacted the victim.
At around 7:30 p.m., motel employees forced open the door of Tañedo’s motel room after he failed to respond to wake-up calls.
Probers said the companion could have slipped away while other couples were checking out.
