House panel renames Clark airport after GMA’s dad

MANILA, Philippines — The House committee on transportation has approved the bills renaming the Clark International Airport as Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.

The committtee led by Catanduanes Rep. Cesar Sarmiento approved House Bills 2274 and 8289 authored by Reps. Aurelio Gonzales of Pampanga and Rodante Marcoleta of 1-Sagip party-list, respectively.

Sarmiento said his bill has the support of the provincial government of Pampanga and Pampangueños and would ”institutionalize the old name of the airport in honor of the former president and his accomplishments and contributions to the country.”

The board of directors of the Clark International Airport Corp. named the airport after the late president in 2001. In 2011, the CIAC adopted a resolution naming it as Clark International Airport.
