MMDA to malls: Delay opening time to ease traffic

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) once again appealed to owners and operators of shopping malls to adjust their operating hours to help ease the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila, especially as the Christmas season is approaching.

MMDA general manager Jose Arturo Garcia yesterday said the agency would meet with operators of malls, particularly along EDSA, on Wednesday to ask for their cooperation.

“We would ask them to start operating at 11 a.m., an hour later than the 10 a.m. regular opening schedule,” he said.

The suggestion would hopefully help minimize traffic along EDSA, especially during rush hour.
