Man buried in Camarines Sur landslide
MANILA, Philippines — A man was buried alive in a landslide in Camarines Sur on Thursday.
Darwin Bermejo was sleeping at his house at the foot of a mountain in Barangay Sipaco, Lagonoy, Camarines Sur when a landslide occurred at about 1 p.m., barangay kagawad Irene Nuñez told police.
Police officers and personnel of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office helped retrieve the body of the victim.
In South Cotabato, Jaime Valdez, 33, was rescued yesterday after being trapped earlier this week when a mine tunnel collapsed in Barangay Kematu, Tiboli.
Superintendent Aldrin Gonzalez, Soccsksargen , said the police and regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources would investigate allegations of illegal gold mining operations in the area and nearby towns. – John Unson
