MANILA, Philippines — A Makati regional trial court denied bail to businessman Arnold Padilla and his bodyguard, who were seen in a viral video bullying traffic enforcers, in the case of illegal possession of explosives filed against them.

In an order dated Sept. 13, Branch 138 Judge Josefino Subia found probable cause to set the arraignment and pre-trial conference of Padilla and Alfie Ortiz on Sept. 21.

Since Padilla and Ortiz are already detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, Subia ruled that their commitment order and transfer to the Makati City Jail would be known on the same day.

In a separate ruling, Subia set bail at P48,000 for the illegal possession of ammunition case against Ortiz.

Padilla and Ortiz were arrested in a raid on the businessman’s residence in Magallanes Village, Makati on Aug. 24.

Police confiscated two fragmentation grenades, a handgun and ammunition during the raid.

Padilla, his partner and bodyguards hit the headlines last month after they were caught on closed-circuit television footage abusing traffic enforcers who pulled them over for beating a red light in front of the Magallanes Village gates along EDSA.
