AFP building memorial for Marawi heroes
MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is building a monument for the heroes of the Marawi City siege at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista, commanding general of the Philippine Army, recently led the groundbreaking for the project along with senior military officers at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig.
The Tabang Malasakit Foundation Inc. donated P12 million for the construction of the memorial.
The project includes the construction of murals depicting the gallantry of the soldiers who fought and died during the Marawi siege.
Bautista said the mural highlights the heroism of troops in the battle for Marawi.
He added the design of the sculptural figures in the mural would be based on references such as the book “Marawi and Beyond” and photos provided by Philippine Army.
“The heroism of our fallen troops is worth emulating and remembering,” he said.
