6 BIFF men surrender in Maguindanao

John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — A leader of a faction of the Bangsamoro Islamic Liberation Front (BIFF)  and five of his men surrendered to the military in this province on Thursday.

The group led by Dido Malawan yielded assorted guns, rocket launchers and bomb materials to personnel of the 33rd Infantry Battalion and Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao police in General S.K. Pendatun town.

Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division said local government officials, religious leaders and community elders facilitated the surrender of the bandtits.

”Credit should be given to local executives in Maguindanao for helping convince these misguided men that the government is sincere in addressing socio-economic issues, poverty and neglect that they are complaining about,” Sobejana said.

More than 30 BIFF men have surrendered since April.
