3 Benguet mountains still closed to trekkers

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — At least three mountains in Benguet remain off-limits to trekkers and tourists amid  inclement weather.

Authorities have barred trekking on Mt. Pulag in Kabayan town as well as on Mt. Purgatory and Mt. Ulap in Itogon since Tuesday to avoid accidents as the southwest monsoon continues to bring rains.

Officials also suspended small-scale mining operations in Tublay and Itogon in the past two days.
